Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See – Kaprun/Austria
KITZSTEINHORN EXTREME – a name that stands for THE high alpine uphill race for ski touring athletes. Starting at the Salzburger Platz, right in the heart of Kaprun, the route takes the athletes over a distance of 17k and an elevation gain of approximately 2.500 meters up the famed Kitzsteinhorn. It’s an extremely demanding race embedded in the unique high alpine scenery of the Kitzsteinhorn (3.203m) with stunning views of the national park Hohe Tauern! Challenge yourself, challenge the KITZSTEINHORN EXTREME!
At the Salzburger Platz the athletes start the race by foot running the first stage to the snow line – depending on the snow conditions, the racers will mount their skis after 700 to 1.200 meters of vertical gain. All athletes have to carry the complete gear throughout the entire race. The second stage leads the participants via the Alpincenter (2.500 m) to the summit restaurant “Top of Salzburg” (3.029 m). The first 20 male and 8 female racers will continue and climb the final stage of the KITZSTEINHORN EXTREME to the Kitzsteinhorn peak (3.203). The participants will not only be welcomed with a fantastic party in the restaurant, they will also be rewarded by the spectacular scenery of the Großglockner, the Wiesbachhorn and the 3000m peaks of the Hohen Tauern region.
The KITZSTEINHORN EXTREME is a race for everybody – recreational athletes, ambitious amateurs and the world’s best pros all together challenge the Kitzsteinhorn.
Entry places are limited.
The top 50 are seeded: qualifying criteria are extraordinary ski mountaineering achievements and high alpine expertise.
